چکیده

This study combined finite element method (FEM) simulations and physical experiments to develop a novel cold bulging process, with the aim of studying mitigating quenching residual stresses in 2A14 tapered cylinder forgings. The samples underwent at different ratios (0–4.0%) evaluate stress reduction performance (via hole-drilling strain-gauge method) improvements their mechanical properties. FEM simulation experimental results revealed that our proposed process reduced by up 85–87%. density uniformity precipitated phases increased along extent bulging, as confirmed transmission electron microscope (TEM) observations. Furthermore, compared unprocessed samples, tensile yield strengths, elongation 3% were significantly enhanced (65 MPa, 55 1.7%, respectively).

Prediction of Residual Stresses for a Hollow Product in Cold Radial Forging Process

Radial forging is an open die forging process used for reducing the diameters of shafts, tubes, stepped shafts and axles and also for creating internal profiles such as rifling the gun barrels. The radial forging of tube is usually performed over a mandrel to create an internal profile and/or size the internal diameter. Most of the previous studies conducted on the radial forging process have u...

Residual Stresses Measurement of a Quenched Cylinder using Slitting Method

Residual Stress measurement has gained interests among researchers for many years due to its great influence on the structural integrity. Slitting method is one of the destructive techniques that relies on the introduction of an increasing cut to a part containing residual stresses. Similar to all other mechanical strain relief techniques, slitting also suffers from its shortcomings during the ...

Influence of Process Parameters on Residual Stresses Induced by Milling of Aluminum Alloy Using Taguchi’s Techniques

In this paper, the straight flute end-milling cutter used for machining of Al-Si-Mg-Fe alloy work pieces was investigated. The machining processes could induce residual stresses that enhance greatly the performance of the machined component. Machining residual stresses correlate very closely with the cutting parameters. In the experiments, the residual stress on the surface of workpiece was mea...

Numerical Simulation and Experimental Validation of Residual Stresses in Water-Quenched Aluminum Alloy Castings

Aluminum alloy castings are normally water quenched after solution treatment to improve mechanical properties. Rapid water quenching can result in high-residual stress and severe distortion which significantly affect functionality and performance of the products. To optimize product design and durability, one needs to model and predict residual stress and distortion produced in the water-quench...
